Hello from Chicago, Illinois! We are the the S. Family and we are so happy we are able to help you in your studies! We have a Mom named C., a Dad named B., a big boy named J. who is 11 and a little boy named L. who is 8. We live very near the city where Barack Obama our President comes from. Both our boys go to school at our church. We think school is very important even though the boys would sometimes rather play instead! The boys love to play football and basketball. I am attaching some pictures of us. One picture is the boys picking apples. The next picture is us by the Christmas tree. The last picture is us in Wisconsin (the state above Illinois) by a river. We hope you like the way we look!
Love,
The S. Family

Aline is a six year old girl, the youngest of three children living in a province of Kigali. Aline has not been to school yet as her parents cannot afford to send her or her brother. She is a child coming from a very poor family with poor health conditions. Aline’s mother came to Faith Victory Association through their domestic violence program to seek counseling to recover from this violence.

Aline is currently being taught basic learning lessons by volunteers at FVA while she awaits assistance to go to school so that she won’t be too far behind. She would like to become a teacher some day and become a volunteer to help others who don’t have the funds, clothing and books to go to school.

We are looking for a donor who will commit to helping Aline with sponsoring her to help give her a chance. For $720 a year ($60 a month) would cover the following:

Food
Uniform or clothing appropriate for school
Shoes
Books
Materials
Health insurance
Administrative support through FVA
School fees

On Saturday we visited the social therapy groups in Nyamata. We saw the plantation, the bee-keeping project, and shared good stories of reconciliation. We also talked to children being considered for Faith Victory scholarships, saw their homes, and met their families. The amazing thing is how these genocide survivors are able to forgive and become productive in a peaceful community. It’s fascinating to see the transformation over 16 years from a country torn apart to a healing environment.

Hi, my name is Enatha. I am 14 years old girl and I live at home with my mother and step-father. I do not know my father and I am unsure of where he is or what has happened to him. My home life is an unhappy one. The man in the house treats me like a stranger and tells me I am useless and hopeless and that they should spend the school fees on the other children. I sometimes wished that I wasn’t alive because no-one appeared to care about me or what happened to me. What upset me most was that I felt I had no future or home.

FVA helped me get back into school, pay for my uniform and school materials. They have also given me hope for the future, as I no longer feel the way I used to about my home. I am talking more with my family and we are working out our issues; and I know that I have a brighter future because of FVA.

My name is Jeannette and I am a FVA sponsored child. FVA have been supporting me like parents for the past 3 years. Both my parents were killed in the genocide. After going through many hardships as an orphan, I stayed with some family members for a short time. Unfortunately they left and went looking for work in other countries and left me alone. I was homeless and slept where I could day by day. Living this type of life can often lead to abuse and hopelessness. One day someone told me about FVA and I looked for their office. I went to the office in hope of changing the direction of my life through FVA. And found that they had answers, guidance and a future for me. After some counseling, FVA decided they would sponsor me by paying for a place to live, my food and education.
