Our Approach

FVA uses a bottom-up approach that is holistic, focusing on individual behaviour transformation and empowerment amongst poor population and marginalised groups as well as systematic change in policy and practice towards a more supportive and inclusive environment. We champion accessibility to services and deliver grassroots programmes in some of the most hard to reach and underserved areas.

We work in a coordinated manner with partners in the civil society, private sector and government. We also support governments and policymakers to engage women and people with disability in the decisions that affect them but also the entire society (Gender and social inclusion).

All of our programmes are delivered through our community-led peer to peer education model which enables the transfer of knowledge and skills to communities working through saving groups, as well as schools and other training institutions. Peer educators are based in target communities over a period of 6 – 12 months where they are able to provide intensive support to local population. Peer educators play a brokering role, linking youth groups to local service providers, government, the business community and civil society organisations. Our facilitators at the community level are guided by the noble belief that once the household is empowered, it benefits the whole community.
