FVA-Gikuriro Program handed VIP Latrines to Kayonza district

Faith Victory Association through the USAID funded Gikuriro Program has provisionally handed over VIP latrines composed with 10 rooms for boys and girls, 2 rooms for teachers, 1 for people with disability and 1 Menstrual hygiene management room to the district of Kayonza for management.

These VIP latrines handed over to the district were constructed Groupe Scolaire Ndego and & Groupe Scolaire Kabarondo in order to promote the positive Hygiene practices at early age.

These facilities will be beneficial to 4192 students enrolled in these schools and especially 979 young girls will benefit from the improved menstrual rooms and 8 students with disabilities will benefit from inclusive facilities.

Directors of the schools were very happy for the infrastructures and thanked Gikuriro Program for the interventions and they ensured that these infrastructures will improve the hygiene of the schools.

Before provision of these facilities, GS Ndego had only 30 rooms of toilets while Kabarondo had 15 rooms of toilets and menstrual Hygiene Management rooms were not improved as they were only arrangement.

These facilities come as additional to other supports which include rain water tanks also aimed at improving hygiene of the schools and the establishment of the Junior Farmer Field Learning Schools (JFFLS) aimed at boosting knowledge of students in farming techniques and dissemination of these practices in their respective households.

The USAID funded Integrated Nutrition and WASH Activity (INWA)-Gikuriro Program is being implemented in Kayonza district by Faith Victory Association (FVA) in partnership with CRS and SNV.
