Integrated Nutrition and WASH Activities (INWA)-Gikuriro Program

Gikuriro program aims to reinforce GOR nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) efforts, toward the national goal of eliminating malnutrition, a key priority in Rwanda where an estimated 22% of child deaths between 2008 and 2012 (RDHS, 2014-2015) were directly associated with under-nutrition due to inter-related factors including insufficient knowledge and practice of key nutrition and WASH principles, small plot sizes and low household income.

Therefore, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Netherland Development Organization (SNV) and Faith Victory Association (FVA) are using United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funds to implement Integrated Nutrition and WASH Activities (INWA)-Gikuriro Program in all sectors of Kayonza district.

Gikuriro goal is to improve the nutritional status of women of reproductive age and children under five years of age, with an emphasis on the 1,000 day window of opportunity from pregnancy until a child’s second birthday and will last for five years.
